Still got your attention? Great! Now for some additional commentary on the canonical nonsense of today's comic:
1. Tsolorandril's t-shirt slogan is compliments of my local gaming podcast Gamerstable! Be sure to check out the special episode we did on the World of Greyhawk.
2. Just in case, the Earthly Magna Carta.
3. The Greyhawk Wars lasted a paltry three years (582-584 CY) before all sides ran out of steam. That doesn't seem realistic to me except in a game sense. Ah well.
4. According to Rary the Traitor, Rary moved his tower from Lopolla in Ket to the Brass Hills in the Bright Desert. Would you mess with a wizard who could move around like that?
5. While I'm on the subject of Ket, why didn't they regard Rary as a hero? During the Greyhawk Wars, Ket joined Iuz. Not Furyondy, not Keoland, IUZ. That made Ket the easterlings to Sauron's Mordor. So the rulership there wasn't the nicest apparently. Rary had just attempted to kill their enemies ambassadors in what would have prolonged the war. Iuz was at a stalemate with Furyondy but Iuz had expanded the most, so a truce favored the good guys. And so what if Iuz's ambassador would've died in the blast too? Worst case scenario is that Rary's actions would've broken the Ket-Iuz alliance. Ket was untouched in the Wars and have Furyondy and Veluna as a buffer from Iuz, so they have no fear of retribution. Also, as the only Baklunish nation even involved in the Greyhawk Wars, it had to be a boon to see the easterners keep fighting, making them weaker as opposed to the West.
6. It is interesting that Ket joined Iuz and as archmage of Ket, Rary should've had his ruler's ear. The Circle of Eight strive for balance and were instrumental in ending the Wars, but what about starting them? Did they WANT Ket to join the bad guys? (Looks at Mordenkainen).
7. Tenser of course did survive the treachery of Rary as seen in the 2nd edition module, Return of the Eight. This module also saw Rary's replacement by the contemporary Baklunish wizard, Alhamazad. Otiluke never made it back and was replaced by Theodain Eriason. Tenser than quit the Circle and was replaced by Warnes Starcoat.
8. Speaking of clones, the wizards that fought in the Grand Hall, including Rary were all clones themselves! That is if you go by the timeline of the adventure Vecna Lives! which happened only a mere year before the Greyhawk Wars.
9. And then there is Lord Robilar. That fiasco is a topic that has been ran over many times in the Greyhawk community. I won't go into it here, but the last word on Robilar and his actions was in the 3.5 adventure, Expedition to the Ruins of Greyhawk by Mona and Jacobs.
10. Rary's brother really is Arkalan Sammal. He is a minor sage in Greyhawk City. How many Circle of Eight wizards have extended family that we know of?
11. Tensers Floating Disk
More next time!
